New European bauhaus festival
The best ideas and projects will be presented at the New European Bauhaus Festival from 9 to 12 June. The core activities will take place in Brussels, with side events across the EU and beyond – including the opening weekend of the Solar Decathlon Europe in Wuppertal.
All festival activities aim to harmonise design, social inclusion, and sustainability towards a climate-neutral Europe by 2050. The Solar Decathlon Europe, which will take place in Wuppertal, Germany, from 10 to 26 June, shows how we can improve the way we build and live in our cities.
10 to 26 June: Solar Decathlon Europe
Supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the world's largest collegiate building competition, Solar Decathlon, is taking place in Germany for the first time. Eighteen university teams from eleven countries demonstrate how to sustainably and cost-effectively close gaps between buildings, add storeys to buildings or renovate ageing residential buildings.
Whether a flat made of wood with a roof garden or a flat with cellulose-based components from the 3D printer: sixteen fully functional, furnished houses with up to 110 m2 of living space combine first-class architecture and climate protection. The Solar Decathlon Europe invites people to create, connect, and share – from architecture to technology, crafts to politics, and science to culture. Daily live streams and virtual 3D tours of the houses allow visitors from all over the world to join in.
