The Mirke Neighbourhood Survey is part of the Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 (SDE 21/22) project, which takes place in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute and the City of Wuppertal. A total of three surveys will take place in 2021 and 2022. The Neighbourhood Survey will focus on the following questions: How does the coronavirus pandemic affect our ideas and expectations of future living, working and lifestyle patterns? How would we like to live in the Mirke Neighbourhood in the future?
The Neighbourhood Survey project will be conducted and evaluated by the SDE 21/22 urban research team: Dr Franziska Stelzer, Ines Stelk, Lea Kings and Melina Freudenthal. The City of Wuppertal supports the Neighbourhood Survey by writing to and inviting all citizens living in the Mirke district. It supports the scientific goals of the project and asks the citizens of the Mirke to participate.
A total of three surveys will take place in 2021 and 2022: in May/June 2021, February 2022 and August/September 2022.
It takes about 15-20 minutes to complete a questionnaire. We try to make our surveys as short and interesting as possible for you.
All residents of the Mirke district aged 16 and over can take part. Every household will receive a personal postal invitation from the City of Wuppertal in April 2021. Participation is voluntary. The research team itself has no access to the address data. You can also register directly here.
It’s very simple! You can register for the Mirke Neighbourhood Survey with your e-mail address here. Registration only takes 1 minute and is important so that we can contact you for the future surveys.
To complete your registration, you will be asked to take part in a short introductory survey (duration: about 5 minutes). You will receive a separate email invite for this after your registration – please do not forget to also check your spam folder.
Once you have completed the introductory survey, we will send you an invitation to each of the three upcoming surveys in the future. You can answer all surveys online from your PC or mobile device (e.g. smartphone, tablet, iPad).
If you do not have internet access, we are happy to take your registration by phone and send you the questionnaires in paper form along with a prepaid envelope. Simply contact us – taking into account our office hours – at +49 202 439 4522 (Office hours: Monday: 12pm – 6pm; Thursday: 9 am – 6 pm)
The results of the Neighbourhood Survey serve the city administration as an up-to-date picture of the public mood in the Mirke district. It is therefore important that this picture is as meaningful and representative of the people in the neighbourhood as possible. That’s why you and your opinion are so important!
The results will also help the projects of the 18 SDE 21/22 university teams, the work of the City of Wuppertal as well as local initiatives and partners in the Mirke. With your participation, you thus not only contribute to new scientific findings, but also benefit your neighbourhood.
By taking part, you can influence the development of your neighbourhood. Among all registered participants, we will also conduct a raffle of vouchers for various cultural and leisure activities in the Mirke district. As a thank you, you will additionally receive the ‘Meine-Mirke-Pass’ [My Mirke Card] for the duration of your participation in the neighbourhood surveys.
Nobody knows the Mirke like you! Therefore, you are also warmly invited to enter into dialogue with us: after each survey round, a dialogue event will take place at which we will present the results and discuss them with you.
As a thank you for your time and commitment, you receive the ‘Meine-Mirke-Pass’ [My Mirke Card] for the duration of your participation in the Mirke Neighbourhood Survey. This gives you a 50-cent discount on any drink at the Alte Glaserei(Juliusstraße 12) – as often as you like! – and three free drinks at Bahnhof Blo, Café Ada and Café Hutmacher. You can also expect great benefits at the SDE 21/22 main event at the Nordbahntrasse from 10th to 26th June 2022. You can find all information at a glance here.
After taking part in the first survey, you will also receive detailed information via e-mail.
No, your participation is completely voluntary. However, continuous participation in all three surveys pays off, as you will receive the current edition of the ‘Meine-Mirke-Pass’ [My Mirke Card] to be used in the time period until the next survey.
To ensure that our survey results represent the opinions of the Mirke residents as well as possible, every household in the district will receive a personal postal invitation from the City of Wuppertal in April 2021. For this purpose, the City of Wuppertal will contact the oldest person listed in the residents’ registration office for each household on behalf of the university. This is possible for research purposes. However, for data protection reasons, the SDE21/22 Urban Research Team itself has no insight into or access to the address data. Your address data will only be used to contact you as part of the research project.
All information on data security and data protection can be found here.
The first Neighbourhood Survey will start in May/June 2021. The next surveys will take place in February 2022 and August/September 2022. You will only receive invitations to the respective surveys at the time they start.
If you have newly registered and are still waiting for the invitation to the introductory survey, please note that this may take up to the next working day to arrive. Please do not forget to also check your spam folder.
When you register for the Mirke Neighbourhood Survey project, you can indicate whether you would like to receive our quarterly newsletter, in which we will inform you about the survey results and current developments in the project. We will also publish the survey results in short form on our website.
Furthermore, we warmly invite you to enter into dialogue with us. After each round of the survey, a dialogue event will take place where we will present the results and discuss them with you.
